We are very fortunate to have well-known stars of the entertainment world as our patrons. The Trust is in regular contact with them and, despite their hectic schedules, they support The Trust’s activities in a variety of ways-

Our President is Dame Joanna Lumley OBE and she is particularly interested in our current project to build The Frankie Howerd OBE Community Hub. She has said,

“it will be a jewel at the heart of the community”. Joanna took over as President after the sad and sudden loss of our previous President and ‘national treasure’ Dame June Whitfield. June was great friends with Frankie and they met frequently. June’s staircase, at her Wimbledon home, was adorned with photographs of her and Frankie in various productions over the years. Joanna was also great friends with June and they had great fun making the “Absolutely Fabulous” TV series which was a huge hit. Joanna and Jennifer Saunders gave an hilarious eulogy at June’s memorial service which June would have loved although she would probably have made alterations to the script!

David Walliams OBE is also a huge fan of Frankie’s and played Frankie in the television production “Rather You Than Me” which told the story of Frankie’s life with his partner and manager Dennis Heymer. In 2020 David narrated the TV documentary “Frankie Howerd in His Own Words” in which he recalls the strong influence Frankie had on his career.

Griff Rhys Jones OBE is another star who has been a life-long fan of Frankie Howerd. Griff has visited Frankie’s house here in Somerset and has recently personally supported a fund raising effort by local schools in aid of The Trust.

Rafe Spall played Dennis Heymer in “Rather You Than Me” He spent some time with Dennis prior to filming and is another actor who admired Frankie’s work.

Suzy Aitchison is the daughter of Dame June Whitfield. She has fond memories of Frank and Dennis coming to her house for Sunday dinner when she was a child. Frank was a great tease. Suzy was delighted to follow in her mother’s footsteps by becoming a patron of The Trust.
